Letter from Char Carr About Miracle for Marissa

MIRACLES FOR MARISSA

Have you ever wondered about the families that we put our money in the donation jars for? We stand in line at the check out and put our change in from our bill. Did you ever stop to think of how you are helping someone?

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Loren Webb in Carol Carmichael’s Carol’s Restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Historic West End. The Webb family moved to Pittsburgh from Kansas for their daughter Marissa to get treatment at our Children’s Hospital and Children’s Institute.

Marissa has spina bifida and has had forty one surgeries and has five heart defects. The family

As Christmas was approaching Carol wanted to get Marissa’s and her sister McKayla each a gift. As a girl her age you would have expected a wish for clothes, an I-pod etc. She immediately said, ”Our family could really use a new stove!” This is how wonderful the whole family is! They give unselfishly to always care for each other and to help their wonderful Marissa.

Carol’s son-in-law Dennis called Bodnar’s Appliance Store. They offered a very generous discount. Dennis’s place of business purchased the stove for them. They also donated money for Christmas gifts! What wonderful people he works for! Pittsburgher’s always come together when someone needs help! Carol was able to have the stove delivered and installed while they were at the hospital. When Marissa’s mother Mandy got home she called Carol and shouted, “SANTA WAS HERE!” They were so happy!

We recently got a few local musicians, Joe Fairweather, trumpet and vocals,
Zach Hudson, all original acoustic guitar music and vocals, and Char Carr, vocals,
to come for an open jam at Carol’s. We were able to raise $467.00 in just a few hours. We will continue to do so Friday’s 6pm-10pm. Our goal is to raise money for the installation of hardwood floors in their home. Marissa needs a smooth surface to be able to practice walking. Their home has wall to wall carpeting making it difficult to do so. We would like to see if it is possible to have a parade for her though the West End.
There are many new shops and the main street has really been revitalized.

Please stop into Carol’s anytime for a delicious meal! Marissa stops by often. She will brighten your day when you meet her! Have a heart, help be a part of Miracles for Marissa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stopped into Carol’s Restaurant and she adopted them. They have no relatives here to help them or even just to talk to. Marissa was in the hospital for nine weeks over the holidays. Carol took Thanksgiving dinner and all the trimmings to the hospital for her and her family!
